A lot of people were happy to say good riddance to the year 2009 and hope for a better one economically and financially in the year 2010. With the difficulties of losing jobs, getting pay cuts, and problems paying the bills during this recession, a lot of people have had to learn how to live more frugally and differently than they were used to living before the economy went downhill. One way they have chosen to be more resourceful is by using their items longer and having certain things fixed such as their Long Island computer from a Long Island computer repair shop instead of buying a new item when it breaks. This article will look into some of the things Americans are having repaired in this tough economy.
Some of the things that people are deciding to get repaired are the large items that typically they would have gotten fixed first, instead of buying new just like before the recession. This would include a lot of high priced appliances like a furnace or home air conditioner, refrigerator or clothing washer and dryer. Because these items cost thousands of dollars, typically to purchase new, many people are willing to pay the service fee to have it repaired to avoid having to put down all of the money it would cost to get a new one.
Another category where people are selecting to have things repaired are in the electronics. There are so many high tech electronics available now and a lot of them have multiple features, that they are certain to have some issues at some point. Because the majority of people are not technically savvy to figure out when something does not work correctly, they have to find the help of someone who deals with repairing those kind of things. For example, you may have an expensive touch screen laptop computer that out of the blue goes blank. Rather than spending a couple of thousand dollars to buy a new one, a lot of customers now seek out a computer repairman to fix it.
Because of the economy, even less expensive electronics are finding themselves at repair shops whereas as the youth from the past would have just thrown it out when it broke and got the newer, improved electronic. Things like I-pods and video game components are now being brought to shops that know how to fix them for a much smaller fee than it would have been to get a new one. Resale shops for small electronics are also seeing an increased business as are the people that repair these things.
The car industry has also seen a change with consumers and their vehicles. Americans are hanging on to their cars longer and maintaining them and fixing them rather than purchasing the newest vehicle on the lot. This has damaging the car industry incredibly but has increased business for car repair shops that do repairs and maintenance of cars. They are also keeping things on their cars longer as well, such as tires and having them rotated rather than buying new ones.
