How can you use Twitter for marketing?

Twitter, what is that? If you are asking that, let’s assume you have been hiding under a rock? Twitter is possibly one of the fastest growing sites on the web these days. It is breaking new ground, and gaining users at a very fast pace. If you have to ask what this thing called Twitter is, you, more than anyone, need to read this and hop on the train!

Twitter is basically a mini blogging platform. You only get 140 digits for each tweet. This may seem tiny at first, but you can actually pack a lot of stuff into 140 characters. Even more to your advantage, though, is people are more likely to read all 140 characters than they are to read a full newspaper advertisement. As you become more experienced working inside the 140 character limit, it will become amazing what you can stick into that small space.

Twitter is much more, though, than just the ability to post daily thoughts. It is turning into a huge marketing boom for those who know how to harness the power of Twitter. There are quite a few Twitter tools available the internet, allowing you to build a following fast.

The whole thing to Twitter is the ability to build a following of very targeted individuals. It is a virtual email list, but an email list that you can market to 10 or 15 times a day. Imagine that, how many advertising mediums are out there that will allow you to get your name in front of a very targeted audience 10 or 20 times a day? Well, there are a few, but how many can you do so at zero cost?

The incredible upside to Twitter is that as you increase this following of highly targeted people, you begin building your own brand. You can build a reputation with these future clients, and they will always be there for you to contact. Very powerful stuff.

If you are just getting started on Twitter, one item you will want to do is increase your followers. For those getting started, this can be difficult and frustrating. There are a number of pretty good ebooks on how to get more followers on Twitter, but even better is some of the software on the market to help you manage the process.

There are many sites out there promoting “follower trains”, similar to a link exchange but for followers. You will build followers fast, but they are not quality followers. They are not targeted, and most are people just looking to grow their own followers. Your advertising is only as good as your list, grow it to be high quality is my suggestion. For a terrific resource to help you do this, go check out Twitter blog.
